Parliamentary Contributions
Oral Contributions:
- 19.01 – Sale of Fireworks – I delivered a speech calling on the government to implement a fireworks ban, similar to the one recently introduced in the Netherlands.
- 20.01 – Holocaust Memorial Bill – I intervened to encourage speedy implementation of the plans for a memorial, rather than further debates and deliberation over the issue
- 20.01 – Diego Garcia Military Base and British Indian Ocean Territory Bill – I intervened to press the Conservatives over their own negotiations around returning the Chagos islands to Mauritius, suggesting that their recent opposition is a hypocritical and opportunistic response to Trump’s comments
Media Mentions:
- 19.01 – Your Edinburgh Briefing – The Edinburgh Inquirer highlighted the recent progress my Rare Cancers Bill has been making in the House of Lords
- 19.01 – Rare Cancers Bill in the name of a former Bell Baxter teacher moves to next stage – Fife Today covered the 2nd reading success that my Rare Cancers Bill had in the House of Lords, last week
- 20.01 – ‘I felt the decision had been taken out of my hands’ – Prospect Magazine launched a supplement on the topic of Rare Cancers. It features a number of very moving and well informed pieces, including an interview with myself, centred around the Rare Cancers Bill
- 20.01 – Local MP claims Gorgie Road works leave “core problem untouched” – Deadline news covered comments I recently made relating to construction works undertaken by Scottish Water at Gorgie Road. The roadworks have been very inconvenient for local residents, and I do not believe that the new installation – a powered screen – will resolve the underlying overflow issues, as it will only stop solid debris from entering the water.
