Major Roadworks in Colinton Mains – Oct-Dec 2018.

I received the text below on Friday (28th of September) – it relates to major roadworks on Colinton Mains Drive…. starting on MONDAY (1st of October)!

As you are aware at SGN, we manage the network that distributes natural and green gas to 5.9 million homes and businesses across Scotland and the south of England. We also provide the gas emergency service in these areas.

We are investing £242,000 to replace our old gas mains and services with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the Colinton area.

In consultation with the City of Edinburgh Council, we will start work on Monday 1 October.

We’ll be working in Colinton Mains Drive between Colinton Road and Colinton Mains Road for approximately 11 weeks. To keep everyone safe, we’ll have temporary traffic lights in place in Colinton Mains Drive. These traffic lights will move with us as our engineers progress northwards along the road. We’ll be manually controlling our temporary traffic lights at peak times to help keep traffic flowing along Colinton Mains Drive.

When we start our project, we’ll need to temporary close Colinton Mains Road at its junction with Colinton Mains Drive. Signed diversions will be in place for motorists. Once we’ve upgraded this section of our pipe and moved our traffic lights away from the junction, we’ll be able to reopen Colinton Mains Road.

When we reach Colinton Mains Gardens, we’ll need to close that road at its junction with Colinton Mains Drive. Once we’ve progressed safely past the junction and moved our temporary traffic lights, we’ll reopen the road again.

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, local residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.

We always aim to minimise disruption and we will make every effort to ensure our works are completed as soon as possible. If you have any specific enquiries about this project, please call us on 0131 469 1728 during office hours 8am – 4pm or 0800 912 1700 and our customer service team will be happy to help.
